Description
About The Book
The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) is one of the oldest, most varied, and profoundly grounded intellectual traditions globally. At its essence, IKS is not just a compilation of old concepts—it represents a comprehensive approach to comprehending life, nature, community, and the cosmos. A central idea that arises from the Indian Knowledge System is the quest for unified understanding: the balanced combination of economic advancement, moral conduct, and spiritual awareness. Indian wisdom integrates the physical with the metaphysical. Rather, it sees knowledge as an integrated domain where science, philosophy, art, health, governance, and ecology exist together and enhance one another. From the exact reasoning of Nyāya and the metaphysical ideas of Vedānta to the mathematical genius of Āryabhaṭa, the advanced medical practices of Ayurveda, and the pragmatic ethics of the Bhagavad Gītā, Indian intellect highlights equilibrium, exploration, and the development of awareness. The central idea of IKS is that knowledge should support life—it must lead individuals toward harmony with themselves, society, and the environment. Education serves not just for academic success but for cultivating wisdom, empathy, and responsible behavior. In the contemporary era, the Indian Knowledge System motivates a revival of sustainable lifestyles, conscious learning, and an embracing perspective. It encourages us to merge timeless wisdom with contemporary advancements, forging a future that is both forward-thinking and anchored in human principles.
This book aims to offer foundational information and is structured into five chapters: Introduction to the Indian Knowledge System, Philosophical Foundations of the Indian Knowledge System, Scientific and Technological Traditions in IKS, Indian Knowledge in Arts, Literature, and Culture, and Applications of the Indian Knowledge System in Contemporary Times.
